I've had a look at the KPI module but I can't figure out how to achieve
what I am trying to do. Is there any documentation that you could point
me too?

Should I be using python or SQL for this kind of request? I don't know
much about python, but I know a bit about SQL. The database requests
seem to be handled by the OpenERP core and somewhat abstracted away by
ORM, so I'm having a hard time inferring suitable requests based on the
database contents and the mgmtsystem source code (it doesn't help that
I'm not a developer and am likely in waaaay over my head here).

If you have the time, any pointers you could provide me would be greatly
appreciated.
