Re: Scratch for Ubuntu Lucid
Wow, your timing is amazing. I've just been chatting with other members of
the team trying to figure out how to get into Lucid.
We've just received a fix for some sound issues - so I'll push an updated
package on our PPA for Karmic soon. I guess I can do the same for Lucid
using pbuilder? Any tips on how to do this would be appreciated - I'm still
quite new to this world.
Re: Universe. That could be tricky, because we have a somewhat unique
license. The Scratch application includes the ability to publish to our
website, which acts as a repository for Scratch projects. So we release the
source with some conditions - like that you can't modify Scratch and push
projects to our server, which could cause problems. See "Scratch Source Code
license" section here:
http://info.scratch.mit.edu/Source_Code
So we were planning on going for multiverse.
The final issue has to do with the fact that Scratch is based on Squeak. We
bundle our own Squeak virtual machine, because the squeak-vm in the
respositories is very old and has bugs when used to run Scratch. If it was
updated, we could do some work to depend on it instead of including our own
with our package (which isn't exactly Lintian clean, but I've overridden
that).
Any thoughts / tips?
Thanks!
Amos
