The rule is rather simple: each single search costs you between 0.1 and 1 second, the more restricted the faster. So not the regions count (you may have ten's of them - only storage), it is the single search.

I guess it is some indentation error you get. (see faq 1800) 
I have sanitized you script and added a while true: (only as an example, I do not know your intention)

To abort an endlessly running script, you can use alt-shift-c.
