There is one situation, where the correct and reproducible similarity
score is vital:

Deciding wether some button is active or not or something is selected or
not, which might be signaled with some darker image or weakly colored
solid background.

In these cases you might try to use one image for both versions and try
to differentiate with the returned match's similarity score.

To set this up correctly is really tricky of course.
