Yes, I admit, it is not an easy job, to get Sikuli running in some Linux
environments.

You might give the new version a try, that will be ready next week and
is available with its final beta today:

IDE: https://github.com/RaiMan/SikuliX-IDE (for scripting)

API: https://github.com/RaiMan/SikuliX-API (for Java programming)

If you are using the 32-Bit Ubuntu 12.04, then the provided libs package might help with the prereqs (OpenCV, Tesseract).
No need to build anything from source.
