But if you want to do experiments in the forefront, then you could just use version 1.0.1 preview, which is muuch easier to handle:

On the other hand I am a bit irritated, since I thought the steps in
comment #5 are clear.

You said, you are using a Sikuli in  C:\Program Files (x86)\Sikuli X

so again the steps, to get the only supported xlrd version 0.7.9 running
with Sikuli:

-- in C:\Program Files (x86)\Sikuli X MAKE a folder Lib (yes you have to do that, no one else does it for you ;-)
-- into this folder copy the downloaded folder xlrd (the one from https://dl.dropboxusercontent.com/u/42895525/xlrd.zip)

start Sikuli IDE and try it.
