RaiMan proposed the following answer:
version 1.0.1 has Tesseract 3.02 and is slightly improved against the situation with RC3.
But there is still enough room for improvement.

The next step will be to use Tess4J's TessAPI library (no need for C++
programming anymore), to have more flexibility already on the Java
level.

Another OCR solution (BTW which should that be?) as plugin is not
available. But feel free to use any available solution in your scripts
and/or Java programming.
