this is exactly what the capture hotkey allows to do:
having the IDE open: work in the GUI of another app up to a point where you want to capture something currently visible and use the capture hotkey (Mac standard: shift-cmd-2).
Back in the IDE, you find the image inserted at the current cursor position in the editor tab.
