just tested on a Win7-64 having Java7 running on a Win8-64 in VMBox
(screen 1400x1042):

- searching an icon on desktop
- the first exists lasts about 500 msec
- the second and following about 300 msec

I even ran this with IDE from the scripting level.
I have no idea, what should be different when using the Java API in a Java environment.
