Since you say:
Sikuli fails without explanation...

It seems, that you are running this main script from inside the IDE.

to get nearer to the cause of the crash, you should run the script from
command line and add this to the main script before the import, that
crashes:

Settings.setDebugLevel(3)

Hoping, that the command line output reveals some valuable information.
