I think, this fixed it in the sources at Tesseract init:

         setlocale (LC_NUMERIC, "C");

I do not know, wether this can be set outside (if possible this may
solve it).

BTW: the train data (eng only for now) are bundled, when using setup
option 5, and should be exported at runtime to the respective folder
(/usr/local/share/tessdata in your case).
