can you please attach a demo pdf? does saving to other file types work?
does the program crash or display any message graphically and/or
stdout/stderr?

  Generating corrupted PDF when scanning as "Text"

Status in Simple Scan:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  When selecting "Photo" it's working great. When choosing "Text" then
  Save, the PDF file cannot be read by any software (Adobe Reader,
  Document Viewer, GIMP).

  Ubuntu 11.04
  Epson stylus DX4850
