[Bug 708190] Re: Document title set to /tmp/simple-scan-XX.pdf instead of saved file name

Unfortunately, enough time has passed since the original report that I
have now moved on to Linux Mint 11 64 bit. The behavior is now slightly
different in that the default title now appears to not be set at all -
less confusing, but still not that helpful (so the solutions proposed
originally would still be preferred)!

I've attached an example pdf from my current set up (please note that
the document creation and modification dates are not set by Simple Scan
as well, therefore defaulting to a Wed 31 Dec 1969 06:59:59 PM EST
time).

Maybe someone else can supply an example representing the original
problem with titles as reported.

Title:
Document title set to /tmp/simple-scan-XX.pdf instead of saved file
  name

Status in Simple Scan:
  Incomplete
Status in “simple-scan” package in Ubuntu:
  Incomplete

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: simple-scan

When scanning a document and then saving it as a pdf file, I would
expect the document metadata InfoKey Title attribute to be something
related to the document's user-set file name or a specified title.
Currently, simple-scan appears to use the intermediate temporary file
name for this value, instead of the final file name set by the user.
  For example:

  InfoKey: Title
  InfoValue: /tmp/simple-scan-RNA6PV.pdf

This means that the panel button and window border identifiers in the
default viewer (evince) show the temporary file name, not the
final/current one, making window identification more difficult.

I would prefer to see it default to the file name set by the user in
  the save dialog, e.g.

  InfoKey: Title
  InfoValue: User-supplied-file-name-no-path-or-extension

An alternative would be to provide for the document title to be
explicitly set by the user using a separate field in the simple-scan
  file save as dialog.

This is reported based on my experience with Simple Scan 1.0.3 on
  Ubuntu 9.04 (Linux Mint 9)
