If you open that dialog before the first scan, does opening and closing
that dialog (discarding changes) also result in a photo scan even so
text is selected?

Bug description:
  If I start SimpleScan without opening its settings "Text"-scanmode works well.
  But if I open the setting of simple scan (even don't change anything there) and try to scan again, "Text"-scanmode looses its settings for black/white/contrast,etc. and looks like a "Photo"-scan.
