Bug #931496 has been fixed in simple-scan 3.3.92

Hopefully that version fixes the problems described here as well.
Please report back whether or not you can reproduce the problem with simple-scan 3.3.92 or later.

  simple-scan crashes when saving to PDF

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: simple-scan

  I can not save a scanned image or textfile. Simple-Scan crashes
  immediatly after i choose a filename and click "save". When i try to
  start simple-scan with through command line, this errormessage appears
  after the crash:
