So what I think Simple Scan should do:
- It can only support images with the same x/y resolutions
- It should support setting x-resolution and y-resolution if the resolution setting does not contain the requested value
- If it still can't get the required resolution (e.g. 600dpi in comment #45) then it should support setting a higher resolution in one dimension and decimating the values (e.g. x-resolution=2400dpi, y-resolution=600dpi, only use every 4 x values).

  I started that thread in December 2010 & still have the same problem today.
  As a summary - the resolution control has absolutely no effect on the results.
  No error messages (unless I try 2400dpi) & nothing in simple-scan --debug >simple-scan.log
  I now have Simple Scan 2.32.0.1-0Ubuntu2 in Ubuntu 11.04.
  The scanner is an Epson Perfection V200 Photo & has normal resolution selection in XSane & Iscan.
