[Bug 703729] Re: Selecting a scan resolution the scanner doesn't support gives vague error message

Appears to be fixed in:

Ubuntu 12.04 LTS
simple-scan 3.4.1

Scanning with resolution set to 2400 dpi now result in using de facto
1200 dpi.

As to why, see the related question: #141578 - answer #3 describes the
resolution control in detail and also gives an explanation of the
behaviour in simple-scan 3.4.1.

Title:
Selecting a scan resolution the scanner doesn't support gives vague
  error message

Status in Simple Scan:
  Fix Released
Status in “simple-scan” package in Ubuntu:
  Fix Released

Bug description:
  Binary package hint: simple-scan

  Scanner model: HP ScanJet 3670
  Ubuntu-release: 10.04 LTS

simple-scan autodetects the following resolutions for the above
  scanner model: 75, 150, 300, 600, 1200, 2400 dpi. All except the last
  (2400 dpi) are correct.

Furthermore, if I try to scan using the inappropriate 2400 dpi
resolution, a dialog box is shown (rough English translation "Couldn't
start scanning."). After closing that, the problem stays permanent:
even if I select valid resolutions, the same dialog box keeps
appearing upon start scan. A full reboot cures the situation (and
maybe there's some less dramatic method to reset the original
functionality, but I didn't find it yet).

I also tried scanning with xsane, which detected only the valid
  resolutions, all else being equal.
