now that we have drag&drop support (see bug above) a menu item makes
sense. only question is: how will the list of offered applications be
populated?

Bug description:
  I think a very useful addition to Simple Scan would be an option to
  open the scanned image with an external bitmap processing application.
  Maybe something like "Open with..." button or menu option. Otherwise,
  I need to save the image and open the desired bitmap app, then search
  the disk for the saved file and so on...
