The scanner doesn't seem to be supported by SANE (the Linux scanner
driver suite) [1].

Epson do seem to have Linux drivers [2] for the Expression XP-300 but it
is unclear from their web-site whether that includes a scanner driver
and if so, whether it includes a SANE driver or uses some proprietary or
other driver.
