Thanks a lot for looking into this! So far I was under the impression
we get something wrong with the (external) update-software-center
(because the error message looks like this). But you are right, there
is a problem with our usage of the threaded xapian enqire.

Yeah, I think this has not really changed.

A big YES from me on this :) I created a test (tests/test_appstore.py)
that makes it either hang or crash. This will be the starting point
for the fix.
