Re: Brightness appplet stop working

Thanks for the info ! I'll try it soon.

But, as we see more and more acpi kernel parameters, I'd just like to know if there is some specification or any way to find out which parameters are valid and what is their meaning ?

I went on acpi website which is os-independant :
http://www.acpi.info/spec.htm
and, of course, didn't find informations about kernel parameters.

Where could I find a list (as exhaustive as possible) of those acpi parameters ?

http://en.opensuse.org/SDB:Kernel_Parameters_for_ACPI/APIC has some, but isn't exhaustive at all. It doesn't contain specific parameters such as acpi_osi or acpi_backlights.

Thanks for the information.

Usually adding "acpi_backlight=vendor" as kernel options would fix the backlight issue for me on 2.6.30 kernels.

I'm on Fedora 11, my kernel is the 2.6.30.8-64.fc11.i686.PAE one.
The previous 2.6.30 wasn't working at all (I had to stay on the 2.6.29) until the new update ... (the 2.6.29 wasn't working anymore, I suppose because of the firmware part which is shared) Now the 2.6.30 is working, but the brightness doesn't work anymore which is kind of sad :/

Hope there's a quick way to make it work again on the Intel card.

I don't assume it was just a couple of updates?

If not, what happens when you run a make-test on eva's module?

No behaviour changes?

Also, are you on Nvidia or Intel side right now? Try switching to the opposite with reboot and report back.

I run the same version of Ubuntu and do not experience any of the problems you have...have you checked your Power Settings after the update?

Good Luck, maybe someone else here has a definitive answer...

I noticed than when i did the update in the update list it was the kernel l 2.6.28-15-generic, that i was already using. And as i said in the previous message the behaviour of the power off buttons has changed, and might be somthing related with the problems with the kernel version and the sony-laptop-module

What distro do you use?

Can you go to the terminal and type
     uname -r

And post back your kernel version....

Thanks,

I've tried reinstalling the eva sony-laptop-module, but still doesnt work change the brightness. Another thing i've noticed is that when i push the power button on the laptop, now the computer direclty powers off, and before having the problems with the brightness when i pushed the button it pop up the log out menu. And in the battery options the power off button i have selected that ask me what to do, but it doesn't now. SO if someone has experimented the same or knows what could be causing this, please tell me how to do it.
Thanks a lo tin advance
