Message #00915
problems with janitor script
Dear Raphael, dear Vaio List,
First of all, thank you for providing the janitor script and all the other
helpful resources.
I have a Z21MN_B Vaio with Ubuntu 2.6.31-14 installed. When running the
janitor script, I get the following error during the installation of the
nVidia driver:
>>>snip
>check the "nvidia driver"
> - no nVidia driver installed
> Everything seems to be present and on its place. Beginn installing nVidia
driver? ([y]es or [n]o) [yes]:
>/usr/local/bin/sony-VGN-Zseries-janitor: line 363: jockey_script: command
not found (I use the German Ubuntu, therefore it is really 'Kommando nicht
gefunden.')
It continues after that with
>check the "nvidia driver"
> - no nVidia driver installed
> Everything seems to be present and on its place. Beginn installing
nVidia driver? ([y]es or [n]o) [yes]:
>>>snip
See also attached log file.
lspci gives
>00:02.0 VGA compatible controller: Intel Corporation Mobile 4 Series
Chipset Integrated Graphics Controller (rev 07)
>01:00.0 VGA compatible controller: nVidia Corporation G98 [GeForce 9300M
GS] (rev ff)
It seems to me that the nVidia driver/card is not recognised. Rerunning the
script and rebooting (i.e. shutting off and switching on the computer)
several times does not help. The stamina LED lights up after booting into
Ubuntu (right after the mouse pointer can be seen for the first time).
Cold-switching it to 'speed' does not make any difference.
I have now also freshly installed Ubuntu from CD (since I had tried a few
things before coming across the janitor script), but still the same problem.
Any help is greatly appreciated!
Best wishes, Tobias.
