Re: Fedora 15 Beta Install Issues on VPCZ1

Oh and I forgot to mention that I'm using the x86_64 version, in case that's relevant.

Thanks,
Candice

Hi Adam,

Thanks for the quick reply. I looked around for any log files I could find in another terminal. /var/log was empty, but I posted my /selinux/syslog to pastebin (http://pastebin.com/zgJaQAuE). Do you know which log file I should be looking in for storage detection reports?

I tried both "Basic" and "Specialised" storage. Using the Specialised method, only one entry appeared, BIOS RAID set (stripe) 122110.0MB md127, and that was under the "Firmware RAID" tab. When I selected this entry, I got the following message:
/
"We could not detect partitions or filesystems on this device. This could be because the device is blank, unpartitioned, or virtual. If not, there may be data on the device that can't be recovered if you use it in this installation. We can remove the device from this installation to protect the data."/

I selected the "No, keep any data" option, and I got the following error message:

/"Disks sda, sdb contain BIOS RAID metadata, but are not part of any recognized BIOS RAID sets. Ignoring disks sda, sdb."/

I continued with the installation, and got to the disk partitioning setup. Here are my results for the following options:

Create Custom Layout: Only option was "Hard Drive," no partitions appeared. Shrink Current System: Error Message "No partitions are available to resize" Replace Linux Systems: Error Message "An unhandled exception has occurred. This is likely a bug.." etc. Error details on pastebin at http://pastebin.com/Wrfbgfzv.

I'm not sure what to do with all this info, though; I can't get much from the log and error files myself. Should I file a bug report for this? Or does this sound more like a Vaio-specific issue due to the RAID setup?

Thanks!
Candice

Hi All,

Has anyone had issues installing Fedora 15 on their Vaio? I tried
running the Fedora 15 beta install DVD on my VPCZ1390X, but it
didn't recognize any of my partitions. I have several partitions on
my drive already (NTFS for Windows, ext4 for Ubuntu, swap), but I
only want to replace the ext4 Ubuntu install. The Fedora installer,
however, only shows the entire 128G drive as format "Unknown." I
assume it's picking up the RAID because it shows only one 128G drive
instead of the two 64G drives.

I'm not sure what kind of debug info to post, but any help would be
greatly appreciated.

Candice,

You can switch to other virtual terminals while running the installer
i.e. Ctrl-Alt-F2, F3 etc. which have various log files, including
storage detection.

One question though - did you use "Basic" or "Specialised" storage? I
think you will need the latter.

Cheers,
Adam
