Z21: Slow FullHD video playback on HDMI output
Hello,
as the subject tells you, I experience slow FullHD video playback on
my Vaio VGN-Z21MN: the framerate is low and there are even artifacts
on the playback.
As far as my configuration is concerned, right now I'm running Ubuntu
12.04 Precise Pangolin, but the problem was present also when I was
running Ubuntu 11.10 or even 11.04.
I tried both installing the latest Nvidia driver available on the
website and the prepackaged version available on Ubuntu: in both
cases, the problem persisted.
I tried using both disper and the nvidia tool to display graphics on
the screen (both in "extended" mode or as the tv as primary screen),
in a variety of configurations (TwinView included).
My xorg configuration file is the one provided by the nvidia tool (I
don't have it right now because I'm running the system in "stamina"
mode and I accidentally overwrote it, but I can include it if you
want). In particular, I tried enabling and de-enabling the video
overlay, but nothing changes.
As the DE, I run Gnome Shell with desktop effects enabled (so I assume
about everything is accellerated), and glxinfo confirms "direct
rendering" and other stuff 3D are properly enabled.
Lastly, I used both VLC and the gnome player to play videos, and VLC
is configured to use hardware accelleration.
Any help is appreciated!
Greetings,
Andrea
