Some questions on buying a new Sony Z laptop
Hi everyone,
I'm new to the list. I am also a happy and satisfied owner of a 4 year
old Sony Z (VGN-SZ61XN_C) which has been running Ubuntu since day 1.
I'm now looking at buying a new Z laptop and I know what I want - sort
of. A powerful 13 inch Sony Z laptop that works well with Linux
(Ubuntu/debian)! I have a few questions I hope someone may have the
time to answer.
Q1 Sony Z product/model codes:
I'm a bit confused as to the product/model codes Sony uses for the Z
series. From (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Sony_VAIO_Z_series) I
gather there are today Z11, Z12, Z13, Z14 and Z21 but I can't really
figure out the differences between them.
I'm in Sweden and have today configured a Z series laptop on Sony's
Swedish home page. I ended up with a configured laptop that is listed
as both a SVZ1311C5E (as a product code) and a SV-Z1311C (as a
description). I assume that means a Z13 model.
http://www.mobiletechreview.com/notebooks/Sony-Vaio-Z-2012.htm
leads me to believe that SVZ1311 which is the label used in the review
is indeed the same as for the laptop I've configured on Sony's Swedish
hompage. Is there any good information online on how to decode Sonys
product, model and series labels?
Q2 Price reduction for not wanting Windows
Does anyone know if it's possible to get price reduction from Sony for
not wanting the Windows OEM license? My guess is no. I didn't manage
to get it 4 years ago anyway.
