8Gb ram on vgn z690

Hello to everyone,
I would like to have some information from those of you who managed to
install 8Gb of ram in a VGN z (possibly 690 or European equivalent of 3rd
gen). I have tried different 2x4Gb modules (corsair and samsung) but my z
always refused to boot. The bios version of my z is R3054M3 with advanced
menu activated.
Reading these old threads:

it seems that both someone had luck with my bios version, and that the same
bios does not allow for 8Gb. I'm afraid that the latter is true, given
my experience and the fact that the last thread is the newer. So here's the
first question: has anybody managed to install 8Gb in his/her vgn z with
the bios version R3054M3 (or a newer one)?

Thanks in advance,
Mauro
