Need to Install Ubuntu

So I need to dual boot ubuntu and windows.. My windows partition will stay
in my z3 raid 0 partition, but i need to run ubuntu on a external media and
i need it to be fast...

If i grab one of those USB3.0 external drives and connect it to my media
dock.. I can boot to it at usb 3.0 speeds?
