i 2.2.18pre9 stødte jeg på muligheden for at opgrade "microcode" i
processoren. Den skriver flg under hjælp:

/dev/cpu/microcode - Intel P6 CPU microcode support
If you say Y here you will be able to update the microcode on
Intel processors in the P6 family, e.g. Pentium Pro, Pentium II,
Pentium III, Xeon etc. You will obviously need the actual microcode
binary data itself which is not shipped with the Linux kernel.

ingredients for this driver, check:

Jeg har været inde på siden og fundet filerne, men jeg ved ikke rigtig
hvad det der microcode gør godt for. Kører processoren hurtigere? Brænder
den af? Kan man gøre det på et produktionssystem? 

Nogen der har teknisk indsigt på området?
