X problem på laptop Compaq 12xl302

Jeg har netop installeret Rethat 7.3 på min Compaq 12xl302 og det gik overraskende smerte frit. Alt virkede fint. Men efter en længere omgang "up2date" er Xwindows blevet meget mørk. Man kan næsten ikke se hvad noget på skærmen.
Jeg kører dualboot og Windows 2000 kører fint.
Den har en 600x800 TFT skærm og 8Mb video RAM.
