Despite its backward incompatibility with other interfaces, it is
backwards and forwards compatible with itself [3]. This means that,
generally, you can connect a SATA drive to a SATA controller and not
worry about which specification each conforms to - they negotiate the
speed, similar to Autonegotiation for Ethernet. The caveat to this is
that some older controllers may not negotiate the speed properly, and
thus the hard drive requires the speed to be forced through a jumper
[4].

Når man har bestemt seg for hvilken harddisk man vil kjøpe
er det fornuftig å google for å se om det finnes problemer
med f.eks det hovedkortet du har.
