[Bug 919395] Re: Panda: only low resolution on 1080p plasma
I had this problem for a while and had not being able to read EDID info using PB. Hoping that issue is a sw one, I had installed
latest Linaro pre-build image 12.03. As reported by others, I get:
omapdss error: timeout reading edid
Raw EDID:
(all zeros)
I had tried connecting PB to a Dell LCD monitor E228WFP (DVI-HDMI cable) and a Sony KDL-52W3000 (HDMI-HDMI cable).
In both cases, PB uses some low resolution default setting. I am ussing OMAP4430 Rev A3 (ES2.2).
Also notice that this image tries to read EDID multiple times but fails
with above error each time.
In addition, after first boot installation has updates
A few questions:
1. Does 12.03 resolve above HDMI DSS issue?
2. How can I determine the issue I have is sw or hw?
3. How can I set the resolution explicitly on 12.3? Please be explicit since I am not that familiar with this distribution.
4. If this is a hw issue, is there a known way to fix it?
5. This issue does not prevent PB from using video hw acceleration, right?

Title:
Panda: only low resolution on 1080p plasma
Status in Linaro Texas Instruments Landing Team:
Confirmed
Status in Linaro Ubuntu Evaluation Builds:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Installed the linarotv image 20120114-2 and hwpack_linaro-lt-panda-x11-base_20120106-1 on a Pandaboard ES with linaro-media-create.
After boot installed ubuntu-omap4-extras-multimedia.
Then did a dist-upgrade on Jan 21. 20:45CET
HDMI connected to a Yamaha RX-V1800 audio-video-receiver and from
there to a 1080p plasma TV.
The resulting screen resolution was only 720×576@50 and xbmc does not offer any further resolutions or refresh rates.
The EDID sent by the Yamaha AVR includes many resolutions up to 1080p (verified with SwitchResX on a MacBook).
Attached boot log with options omapdss.debug=1 drm.debug=7 and EDID
