torios-core updates
Hi all,
I have been trying to fine tune the core package. Having my wife and
kids use ToriOS daily has helped me find what I need to do to make it
usable :)
I added in a consolekit rule for udisks1 &2 (so I don't have to update
the package for ToriOS 2.0 it should just work)
I also did a major restructure of the directories in the package. This
should make it easier for anyone in the future to figure out:
a. what I did, and where things are
b. how to duplicate this for any other WM they want
In 12.04 /usr/share/applications/defaults.list is used to determine what
programs handle the default actions.
On the Lubuntu mailing list John Hupp (an excellent researcher and
tinker) discovered that this has since changed.
I modified the install process for torios-desktop to install BOTH
defaults.list and mimeapps.list I will need to probably install a
torios-mimeapps.list as well
I will also need to implement this in the settings-manager.
currently it checks to see what the default filemanager is. This is to
(eventually) set the background no matter which filemanager is being
used, and also to start it when the user clicks
'icons on desktop'
Those are things that just do not fully work yet, but I intend to
accomplish eventually.
It might be interesting to try to build ToriOS 2.0 right after we finish
Beta to see if will simply work. I am definitely trying to make this
easy to do everything only once (though there will probably be huge
changes by ToriOS 3.0 with systemd)
One last thing...
What should be done about updates? Installing the update manager will
use more RAM.... I think it might be a good idea to make a simple setup
program to run install scripts. Not everyone knows how to use a
terminal (nor do they want to for whatever reason).
