Hi Nio,
I do not know how adamantly a lawyer would pursue something that is not
really an issue.
The actual law is pretty vague, and seems to go either way.  I think
Debian/Ubuntu just play it safe to not step on any toes, or have the
appearance of evil in anyway.
So, probably it would be good to follow suit and advise the user that
there is controversy around using a libre CSS descrambler to play your
DVDs, and let the user make that choice after installing the non free
libraries to play mp3s and what-not.
