Message #00521
Jessie progress...
Hey everyone,
I successfully replaced xfce4-power-manager and volumeicon-alsa with yad
programs.
I also installed dunst and we have the same disk usage (du -h shows 1.5
Gig as before)
The main hog now is network-manager. Replacing that with scripts will
be quite an undertaking, but should be doable, or at least it will be an
educational undertaking. It is not something that I will concentrate on
prior to release. But so far, I have successfully shrunk our footprint
further and added more functionality. I will be rebuilding the ISO
again soon. This will change things, and I would like everyone to test
our new indicators. The volume icon now will automatically use
pavucontrol if it is installed, or fallback to alsamixer. There are
possibly some issues remaining and some things I need to add (the ralink
firmware and pm-utils perhaps). But I think going forward this will be
a much nicer.
These indicators are fairly tested by myself. I have been using the
battery indicator for quite some time, and it works well on my laptop to
control suspend. I am going to further tweak and refine it a bit more,
but would like people to test them.
In the mean time, you can test things by installing yad and updating
sudo add-apt-repository ppa:webupd8team/y-ppa-manager
sed "s/jessie/trusty/g" /etc/apt/sources.list.d/webupd8*
(or you can look up the actual filename and use sudo nano or vi or whatever)
sudo apt-get update && sudo apt-get install yad
sudo apt-get dist-upgrade
cp /etc/skel/.jwmrc ~/.jwmrc
Then logout and log back in again.
To test everything
