Live session: > no battery, no volume, no nm-applet, no software installer icons in top panel.
Installed system: > All expected icons in top panel.> Apps menu not populated fully, had to do Reload Desktop; Places drop-down okay.

Live Session: Strangely I found no need to Reload Desktop as the Apps menu and Places were populated as expected.
