ToriOS Website - version 2.0

Hi,

I was hoping the easier way for me is to chat online with you and highlight the changes but I guess it is better to write an email so there you go :)

_*Warning:*_
This is going to be a long email :D

- - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - - -
_*Home Page Changes:*_

1. StartUbuntu Banner to be removed from the homepage. Instead of
StartUbuntu banner, we need to use ToriOS Logo - attached.
2. The Home Page has the old logo so this one should be replaced with
the new attached logo - please use only the Japanese word not the
whole thing - yes, the red one.
3. The Home Page tab (which will be the new logo of ToriOS - the
Japanese word) should be a bit bigger. The current size is very fine
but I want it to be extra clear.
4. Is there any possibility to add 'Home' next to the logo? or that is
a bad idea? I'm trying to find out what is the best for a newcomer
   to our website?
5. The font must be changed. Anything except Times New Roman.
6. The text + the layout of the text on the home page must be changed.
I'm not sure how to explain that but will try. Each different
paragraph to be inside a square or something. Kind of grouping each
   paragraph.
7. Some text is outdated and some other must be removed. The final
text, for the time being, will be:

Hello and Welcome to Tori ? OS homepage

   The Name

Tori ( ? ) means Bird in Japanese and a bird is a symbol for freedom which this project is all about.

   The Announcement

Ali/amjjawad <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/amjjawad> has announced <amjjawad.blogspot.com/2014/01/meet-torios.html> in 14th of January, 2014; the beginning of a new era for Old Hardware and a possible replacement for Windows XP <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/StartUbuntu> and a potential strong system for NON-PAE <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE> machines. ToriOS - a GNU/Linux Distribution based on Ubuntu LTS.

     Features

Simple, Fast, Small, Minimal and Gives you a freedom of choice to build your system the way 'you' want and like.

     Technical Features

1- ToriOS will only be based on the LTS releases of Ubuntu. That said, ToriOS will always be LTS <https://blueprints.launchpad.net/torios/+spec/torios-lts>.

2- There will be only few packages by default <https://blueprints.launchpad.net/torios/+spec/needed-packages> and the user has 100% freedom to choose, download and install the package he/she needs, wants and/or desire. ToriOS will work out-of-the-box with the minimal possible working system. It is for the user to decide what system to have based on ToriOS.

3- Old machines with NON-PAE <https://help.ubuntu.com/community/PAE> CPU will not go to trash yet. ToriOS will use Non-PAE Kernel <https://blueprints.launchpad.net/torios/+spec/non-pae-support>.

4- RAM Usage will be as minimal as possible - the target is to create a system that is using less RAM than Lubuntu <https://wiki.ubuntu.com/Lubuntu#System_Requirements> (and other distributions).

5- ToriOS will find better options when it comes to the default installer <https://blueprints.launchpad.net/torios/+spec/default-installer>. Ubiquity, as everyone may know, needs more than 256MB RAM at the best cases and sometimes, it requires even more.

6- More Technical Information can be found here. <https://blueprints.launchpad.net/torios>

     Why ToriOS?

1- Ubuntu and its official variants, specially Lubuntu, do not support NON-PAE Hardware by default.

2- While everyone can use the Mini ISO (download, install and build a system), some users have some difficulties. The installation of ToriOS will be much more easier than installing the Mini ISO.

3- ToriOS will work out-of-the box. ToriOS will provide a working system with GUI before and after installation (/After installing the Mini ISO, there will be NO GUI, only CLI/).

4- What is so special about ToriOS is its community (team). It is based on team work spirit. They are so friendly, nice and work as one family. No decision no matter what to be taken unless everyone votes and agrees on (majority). It took 3 days to decide a name for this project because everyone had to vote for that.

     Why Ubuntu?

Simply because Ubuntu is the best system for a newcomer from Microsoft Windows. It is very easy to learn, simple, stable, powerful and just work. Not to mention it is widely supported.

     Why LTS?

We think that a 6-months cycle is an overkill and it is really hard for ToriOS community with the lack of manpower and other resources to go for the same release cycle of Ubuntu. We haven't yet decided whether to release a new version every 2 years or less? but most likely, we shall release new version every 12 months.

     Our Vision

Unlike what some may think, this is not to increase the number of Linux Distributions <http://distrowatch.com/weekly.php?issue=20140113#waiting> by 1 more system. In fact, this project has a vision to 'decrease' the number of Linux Distributions. *How?!* We do have a vision to approach other projects and ask them to merge with us. However, we need a working system to show to the world and then ask people to join. But of course, if any project/community would like to join now at this stage, that would be great.

Dear friend, please feel free to change the wording whenever necessary. English isn't my first language :)

We need to put a banner at the top of this page or a note saying:
*
ToriOS is currently under heavy planning and we haven't yet reached the development phase.*

This message will be updated whenever we reach to a new phase/point.

@Israel
Please add pictures/icons for the Social media not just links.

That is all for now ... phew, I'm tired ...

By the way, there is kind of a bug. Sometimes, while I'm checking the tabs, if I click on 'News' Tab, I got the 'old' news tab and it will not redirect me to the WordPress Area so why is that?

If there is anything else, I shall let you know but basically, this is all for now :)

Sorry for the giant email.
