When I ran the ToriOS VM, I remembered another alternative OS I tried (I
have a VM of it)
Kolibri
http://kolibrios.org

It is written in Assembly so it is ridiculously fast.
Something to think about for anyone testing really OLD machines.
The VM is almost instant power on to desktop.
It isn't Linux, so a lot of my favorite apps don't exist... but it is
something to keep an eye on for all of you messing with old computers
