Re: New ISO to test

Hi Israel,

The current daily version works well now in my Toshiba (where there has
been problems identifying previous distros)

http://www.toshiba.se/laptops/satellite-pro/c850/satellite-pro-c850-19w/

and also in a desktop computer with AMD Athlon 64 X2 Dual Core Processor
4400+ (bought in 2008)

http://www.asus.com/Motherboards/M2NVM_DVI/

*Maybe major issue*

I'm not sure it is a good idea with 'layer:above' for any windows at
all. After testing for a while it gets annoying.

*Minor issues*

- 'firstrun' is not running in the installed system.

- In the 'Final Warning' window at the advanced OBI level, the root
partition is written with black text, and the swap partition is written
with red text. I suggest that they are written with the same colour. The
text is bold, so I think it is OK with either of the colours, also black
is visible enough (in the zenity version).

*Possible suggestion*

Use the graphical icon that I attach for the OBI. It matches that of
zmktbl, in to and out from a black tar ball :-)

*Notice and suggestions about the size of the iso file*

The tarball is getting very close to the limit for CD size,

To be exact, the limit is 737280000 bytes = 737280000/1024/1024
Mibibytes = 703.125 Mibibytes.

For example, upgrading mkusb from 10.0.6 to 10.3 will increase the disk
space by 691 kB (according to the installer). This will be compressed in
the iso file, but if it will be added to the live as well as the
installed system it might be around 1 MB anyway. (I noticed that I have
to reload the desktop to run the new version of mkusb.)

Maybe we need to consider what can be removed if necessary.

There is also an alternative to have *one lean version* (well within CD
size) and *one full version* (with several useful application programs,
maybe also alternative kernels, the PAE kernel and a Trusty kernel + the
HWE stack for Trusty, alias 'full Precise 12.04.5 LTS'). I think it
would be [by a big margin] within DVD and 4 GB pendrive size, maybe
between 1.2 GB and 2.5 GB.

Best regards
Nio
