Non PAE cpu definition

Hi

Started work on manual 3.0, could someone explain what NON PAE means
please. I am finding the explanation at
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Physical_Address_Extension really
confusing as to what processors it refers to, as in what is meant by old.

I think PAE was introduced in about 1995 (Pentium Pro,) so I am guessing
that ToriOS is designed to work on i386 and i486 as well as early
Pentium / AMD processors.

For the introductory page I have taken the text from the Website but
amended to say

"is a GNU/Linux Computer Operating System". So putting Computer in so
it is clearer to non techy people that it is for computers, may sound
rather basic, but not everyone will know what an Operating Sysytem is for.

I don't want to go in to great detail explaining PAE in the manual, so
could we put this on crypt drive, maybe it can either go on the website
or we can just cite a website somewhere that gives a simple 1 paragraph
non techy explanation.

I am guessing that
A non PAE system can only access up to a certain amount of RAM (memory)
in a computer system, newer PAE systems can see far more.

Thanks

Paul
