Title:
desktop freeze on launching openoffice
Status in The OpenOffice.org Suite:
Invalid
Status in Unity:
Fix Released
Status in “unity” package in Ubuntu:
Fix Released
Bug description:
Binary package hint: openoffice.org
Running Ubuntu 10.10 beta in a netbook session (Unity), I select the OpenOffice spreadsheet from the applications browser.
The OpenOffice splash screen appears, followed by a period of high CPU usage (judging by the fan speed on my eeePC).
I can still move the mouse cursor, but the desktop becomes completely unresponsive. However, I can still use Ctrl-Alt-F1 to get into a virtual terminal, where things appear to be running normally. (Running htop shows <5% cpu usage and no openoffice programs running.)
In the first instance, the splash screen went away before the freeze, and trying Ctrl-Alt-F7 just brought me to a blinking cursor.
In the second instance, the splash screen remained stuck on the desktop, and Ctrl-Alt-F7 brought back the frozen desktop.
