removing tar you've corrupted your install.  You may want to consult one
of the available user forums for help in recovering your system.

Status in “base-files” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  I had deleted /bin/tar file by mistake. so to reinstall it..
  I tried following command..

  # apt-get install --reinstall tar

  which results in following output...
