[Bug 1315286] Re: Regression: screen corruption after update to trusty
I have the same symptoms after finally upgrading to trusty a few days
ago. When hotplugging or removing an external monitor while in the Unity
desktop, the screen image starts blinking a static image within a few
seconds. The mouse cursor continues to operate normally.
I only see this under Unity - login screen (lightdm I guess) and GNOME
Flashback (with or without Compiz) accept a monitor hotplug perfectly
and extend the desktop in the process.
Latest Intel's graphics stack performs the same.
Thinkpad X200, Intel GM45 graphics, 1280x800 LCD, various VGA secondary
screens (1024x768 to 1920x1200)

Title:
Regression: screen corruption after update to trusty
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
Hi
After upgrading, I am nolonger able to hotplug a 2nd screen to my
laptop. The screen corrupts and I have to change to a terminal to do
anything. This happens when the 2nd screen is on or off and unplugging
the 2nd screen without shutting down. Booting with the 2nd screen
attached does solve the issue. "sudo pkill Xorg" also solves it, but I
loose my session.
I've deleted ~/.config/monitors.xml, reconfigured Xorg an the Xorg
intel driver, xrandr and a nomodeset option in grub ( creates a no 2nd
screen connected).
This morning I'm stuck on mirrored screens and any attempt to change
it corrupts the display until I deleted .config/monitors.xml.
Laptop: Samsung NP300E5C
CPU: i5 - 3210m
GPU: 3rd gen intel
Ram: 12 GB
drivers: libva- intel-vaapi-driver, xserver-xorg-video-intel
Monitors:
1. LG 21" LED on VGA - seen as a Goldstar 20"
2 Sinotec 32" LCD on VGA and HDMI - seen as a 40"
Reproduction: Easy plug/unplug a 2nd screen while in desktop or
terminal(switching back to desktop).
Will upload short videos of the LG when I get them of my phone.
The bug was uploaded in terminal while tty7 was flashing away.
I suspect that it's config cruft still on the laptop from saucy, like
the rest of the clean-up I have been doing.
