Status in The Unity 8 shell:

Status in “unity8” package in Ubuntu:

Bug description:
  if word suggestion/spell checking turned on in the keyboard then search doesn't work from the shell as it should.
  The fix is to disable predictive text by setting this property on the search text field:
  inputMethodHints: Qt.ImhNoPredictiveText
