Title:
PM-Hibernate does nothing on Dell N5110
Status in “pm-utils” package in Ubuntu:
Confirmed
Bug description:
I installed pm-utils, then ran sudo pm-hibernate, which simply made
the screen flash, and nothing else happened.
A workaround seems to be to edit the file /etc/pm/config.d/defaults (create if it doesn't exist), then add the line...
HIBERNATE_MODE="shutdown"
...and after this, sudo pm-hibernate successfully hibernates the system.
To make this change integrated with the desktop (make hibernate appear in the menus) you edit a policykit file, following the highest-voted solution at...
http://askubuntu.com/questions/94754/how-to-enable-hibernation
...and after a restart there should be new options and you should be
able to use them within the power management routines of Ubuntu (Gnome
in my case). Rebooting now.
