Title:
Ubuntu 10.04 LTS upgraded to 14.04 LTS via 12.04 LTS does not have
proper name resolution
Status in Release Notes for Ubuntu:
New
Status in “resolvconf” package in Ubuntu:
Opinion
Bug description:
In Ubuntu 10.04 LTS, /etc/resolv.conf was a real file managed by
Network Manager. In 12.04 LTS, the new default was a symlink to
/run/resolvconf/resolv.conf, but an upgrade from 10.04 LTS to 12.04
LTS does not change the previously NM managed file.
In 12.04 LTS, name resolving continues to work. However, similar to
bug #1308378 (see also bug #1000244) this becomes a problem when an
upgrade from 12.04 LTS to 14.04 LTS is made.
Suggested wiki text:
* If the system was originally installed as 10.04 LTS, and then
upgraded to 14.04 LTS via 12.04 LTS, network name resolving is not
working. A manual workaround is needed. (Bug:1355868)
And the workaround:
cd /etc
sudo rm resolv.conf
sudo ln -s /run/resolvconf/resolv.conf .
