[Bug 1313289] Re: Low Graphics Mode with AMD R9 270X
I've never been able to get to the Console once I get the error message
that Ubuntu is starting in low graphics mode. If I opt to "Run in low
graphics mode for just one session" the display freezes. The same
happens if I opt to "Exit to console login" or if I press Ctrl + Alt +
F1 or Ctrl + Alt + Backspace to exit the GUI.
The only way to get into Ubuntu is to either go through recovery or keep
rebooting and hope that it doesn't go into low graphics mode.
RIght now I'm running the official AMD drivers that I've managed to
compile. The problem now happens less often (i.e. less than 3/4 of the
time) but it's still a real pain.

Title:
Low Graphics Mode with AMD R9 270X
Status in “xorg” package in Ubuntu:
New
Bug description:
Hello,
I have an AMD R9 270X graphics card and Ubuntu will occasionally go
into "low-graphics mode" when starting up. At that point I cannot do
anything apart from drop into the terminal.
It happens sporadically, about 3/4 of the time. Often a reboot will
fix it however because it happens so often, it's very annoying.
I've tried installing fglrx and fglrx-updates along with the latest
proprietary AMD drivers including 14.4 stable and 14.3 beta. However
it still occurs.
I've also tried using failsafeX settings among other things without
success.
Attached are the Xorg and Xorg.failsafe log files.
There's a segmentation fault at the bottom of the failsafe log files
which may have something to do with it?
