it's not a precise duplicate - but this is being solved by an effort to
land our multimonitor branch that's in silo 0 (or similar to silo0)

  unity8 crashes whenever external monitor is connected/disconnected

Bug description:
  I just got a slimport HDMI adaptor, but whenever I insert it the phone
  screen gets black and shortly afterwards unity8 crashes. The external
  monitor remains black.

  The crash is https://errors.ubuntu.com/oops/7d378a56-5c95-11e5-b10a-
  fa163e339c81

  A crash also happens when I disconnect the cable.

  Also, if I boot the phone with the external monitor connected, nothing
  appears in the external monitor and the lock screen on the phone is
  shown partially out of the screen, and the bottom part of the screen
  is just black.
