I use Ubuntu 14.10 now (the dash search is fine in that version). I
never did see a change when I was using Ubuntu 13.10

Bug description:
  I recently completed a fresh install of Ubuntu 13.10 and completed the
  updates. I noticed that searches in the dash take about ten seconds
  which is longer than it took on Ubuntu 13.04 on the same hardware.
