Ok, so the real problem is that the scale should not be loaded after
unityshell. You can manually fix it in this way:

1. open ccsm
2. Preferences
3. Plugin list
4. Disable "Automatic Plugin Sorting"
5. Select scale in the right list
6. Click on "<" button
7. Enable"Automatic Pluging Sorting"
8. Reopen ccsm and enable scale
9. Make sure that scale is not the last in the list

Now it should work. The question now is why your config was messed up?
Did you play with ccsm before?

Bug description:
  1. Open an application like Firefox
  2. Open multiple window for that application
  3. Click on the application bar on the icon of that application

  Expected: all the window for that application are showed
  What happens: freeze everything for a few seconds, then crash. 

  Affects my machine since somewhere during 15.04 release cycle. 
  Updated today to 15.10, but still here probably even worst
