[Bug 1366209] Re: Returned to the greeter screen when logging in.
This sounds as if there is something in your user directory which has
been messed up.
Can you please chown your home directory recursively, to make sure you
are the owner of all the files and directories, and let us know if it
makes a difference. Assuming your username is "mike", this is the
command I suggest that you run:
sudo chown -R mike:mike /home/mike

Bug description:
If I log in as Guest or root, I can get into the account. However, if
I use my normal user account, I just get returned to the login screen.
If I use gdm as my desktop manager, I can get to my user account.
